I see 4 options. How do you decide which is best for horse? Thnx

Dynamite,.. that's one of the most intriguing aspects of the game, and it's never set in stone. Depends on your horse and what it's capable of really. A fast horse over 4 or 5 furlongs probably requires the " Push" option..... but the same horse at 6f might need steady, maybe even " Relax".. its knowing what your horse needs and being able to sift through the many race variables. Keep asking questions, its a very freindly environment here. But above all, its getting your hands dirty and trial and error. GOOD LUCK...

Polaris is quite correct.... it depends on the horse. Some are quick out of the gates which may need to be steadied or relaxed over certain distances whereas others are slow out of the gates and need pushing to keep them close to the field to close late. Use your workout training to see what suits each horse you have over different distances, use all 4 instructions and compare times. Sometimes it doesn't matter what instruction you use, the horse runs similar times. However on race day, depending what gate draw it has, one instruction may work better than another. You'll find in races that you may have to change the instruction if they draw inside, i.e. 1/2/3 where you may have to steady or relax them compared to drawing wide, where push might be the best option. If you look at races with large fields 8 or more horses, you will notice that the race engine will normally only allow 3 horses to lead, the outside horses will drift back until they get 3 off the fence then move forward. That is why push is a good option for the outside horses especially in sprints, so that they push forward rounding the turn. If you have selected relax, the horse may drop too far back to be any chance in the run home.

Hope that helps. But it varies from horse to horse and race to race. When you get some experience, you should be able to 'predict' roughly where your horse will travel in the race, either on pace or settling back, then you can set your jockey instruction to work better for you.

Jockey Decides isn't bad to use when you aren't sure and some horses actually prefer this instruction to the other options.

You may also find that a horse runs well on say, steady and not so well with the other instructions. In this case, it is beneficial to adjust its distance rather than the instruction i.e. if it gets back but makes up good ground at the end of a 6f race. Increase the distance to 7f or 8f using steady and note the outcome. Conversely, if it is leading at 6f on steady but fades in the last furlong, lessen the distance to 5f and see what happens.

Nothing is set in concrete in this game, it is up to you as a trainer to sort out each horse that you have to find its niche, by distance, surface and most importantly the class it can comfortably win in.

Any more questions, just send me a PM.

these instructions are challenging to figure out at times. Some post positions dont allow them to work properly.

We need a new instruction applied to the game called get the rail!!!
