Just heard about the Vegas shooting!!!

    50 dead and 400 injured.

    This world is fucked up!!!

Mass chaos here last night. I wasn't at the concert but was at one of the casinos just down the strip from Mandalay Bay where it happened. There was panic thru out the casino a few times as people thought there was a shooter inside. The casino was locked down...nobody allowed in or out. By the time they allowed us out I didn't get home until 5:15 AM.

I have a friend and coworker who was at the concert. She is OK but quite shaken up as you might imagine.

58 dead and 515 injured at this point. Deadliest mass shooting in American history. I'm on my way shortly to go and donate blood. Say prayers for those who are still in critical condition.

It is A Sad Thing... Totally unreal that people can be that big of a chicken chit and a coward to boot. Killing all those people and hurting the others. then turns the gun on his self to show how big of a coward he is... One thing about it he will be where he belongs in HELL... And how did he get all this into the casino? Not saying casinos fault but how.. I bet that changes now.... A person like that needs to be shot once a day just enough to hurt them n do it until he dies........... prayers for all the families ....G

I know G...It's hard to fathom getting all that fire power into the hotel but it's actually very easy. Unless they start screening everyone with metal detectors and x-ray machines there's no way to stop it. I'm sure all he did was bring it in packed in suitcases. This was not a case of he just snapped and suddenly committed this on the spur of the moment. This was well planned. He checked into the hotel on Thursday and specifically requested a high room with a view of the festival site giving him a strategic vantage point. They are now reporting that he had 17 automatic weapons in his room and 200 magazines of rounds. The word is that there is more info to be released yet that is going to be shocking about the setup he had.

The incredible thing is the outpouring of support from the community. People think of Vegas as "the strip" full of mainly tourists and visitors. What many don't realize is that there are 2 million residents of Las Vegas and 3 million including the suburbs. Away from the strip Vegas is just a big city like many others where people live normal lives. The people showing up to donate blood were thousands upon thousands thru out the city and surrounding areas. The lines at most locations are 6-8 hours long and people are staying to donate. I have never seen anything like it.

Unfortunately, security in casinos is not very good at all, one of the reports I heard today said he actually built some stands in his room, No one heard any commotion?????

If it were the old days when housekeeping actually came in and made up your room every day this might have been avoided but in an effort to save money the housekeepers are not required to clean the rooms every day.

Maybe this incident will force the hotels to do the right thing and check each room every day, if he had 13 weapons and all that ammo there would be no way for him to hide it from everyone.

Very sad day here in Las Vegas, prayers and best wishes to all who have been affected by this horrific incident.

My thoughts and prayer are with the victims and their families. All of America for that matter.

Glad our Vegas locals are okay.Such a tragedy and then have to sit and watch everyone politicize it so much before we even know all the details. The fake news minions are out in force spreading rumors. Such a sad state of the world we live in these days.

This is certainly not a political message, but I want to share with this tightly-knit group......

I pray for us as humanity to find a way to resolve our mental health issues. We all have them, I have some, you may have some, the shooter clearly had plenty...... We as a people need to re-brand mental wellness as a part of life, not the "Loser" branding we associate with mental health, seeking counseling, etc.. So many of us hit the Gym for physical health - why do we not hit the "Mental Gym" for mental wellness?

I see a counselor twice a month, because I don't share my personal life stressers- the truly PRIVATE stuff - with anyone except my doctor-counselor (ok, my "SHRINK"). You cannot imagine how GOOD it feels to be told "you are looking at things wrong, and you should try another approach"......These professional mental wellness doctors are VERY good at what they do. I walk out feeling RELIEVED, FOCUSED, CONFIDENT.....whereas I can have mega-anxiety and high stress merely 90-minutes BEFORE I start my sessions. As people, we tend to run to MOM or DAD or WIFE or our BROTHER to reinforce to us that we are always correct - they will always "side with us"......Many of us need to take the step to mental well-being. Of course,I seek my doctor's help for issues that fall far below this atrocity.....and I encourage any of you who bottle up your anxieties, depression, or frustrations....please do yourself a favor - TALKING to a professional helps more than you could ever know.

God Bless those in Vegas, I ask You locals, please make the rest of us aware of the BEST ways we can contribute.....I was so proud to hear how NOBLE it was for some of you to donate blood immediately - If I was there locally, I would be donating blood as well......as we cannot put a price tag on blood. If you have knowledge of the BEST methods to get food, money, and resources DIRECTLY to the affected people, please share with us, so we can help. Some of us prefer the big ones (Red Cross, United Way, etc...).....But I have learned that local folks typically learn of 100% volunteer programs where 100% of the resources go to the victims.

In closing, I am proud to be part of this community......We are an imperfect bunch.....But we Rally together when "it's right".

You make some good points Orb but that is all I'm going to comment on that because I don't want to see this turned into anything political. What I will comment on is your question of how to help.

First...I commented before that it was incredible to see the lines that were 6-8 hours long for people waiting to give blood. I said I have never seen anything like it...and I haven't. I lived on the east coast not too far from NYC when 9/11 happened and I went to NYC often including soon after 9/11. The turnout and the community support and the financial support was incredible so please understand that I'm taking nothing away from the community response to 9/11...but I saw nothing like what I saw in Las Vegas last Monday. My point is that this city stepped up big time in the donation of blood and donations are continuing daily so I think we are in good shape there. What I suggest is...GIVE BLOOD...in your communities. We live in a world where we never know when or where the next disaster will strike. It could be here or in your town. Just look at the school shootings that happen in unexpected places. Don't wait for a disaster to donate. When I lived in PA I gave regularly every 60 days or so that you are allowed to. I did so because I'm O negative and it's one way I felt I could make a difference in lives. When I moved back to the west coast (CA and then NV) I got out of the habit. I'm embarrassed to say it took this disaster to slap me in the head and get me back to the bloodmobiles. I will be a regular again...PLEASE be a regular in your communities...it's more important than you might think

Second...If you want to help victims financially please donate to https://www.gofundme.com/dr2ks2-las-vegas-victims-fund
This is a go fund me account set up by our county commissioner Steve Sisolak to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting. I believe the initial goal was either $500K or $1M. The fund is now over $9.5M with a new goal of $15M and much more is needed. If it reaches that goal it will be further increased. On that page are also listed places where canned goods and non-perishable items can be donated.

Lastly...PRAY! Pray for physical and mental healing for those dealing with the injuries and the aftermath of this senseless tragedy. Also pray for peace and comfort for those who lost loved ones...and pray that we all can learn to love one another, respect one another and stop the divisiveness and hatred we have seen growing more and more over the last several years. (and that's as political as I'm going to get)
