Question for the group. I have been training a 1 year old colt and i paid the vet for his advice, and he said.

Bute will have a neutral effect on this horse.
Lasix will have a slightly negative effect on this horse.
Vitamins will have a maximum positive effect on this horse's stamina.

So i set the meds as adviced and got a really strange result. I have just rerun the horse again today and With Bute missing as advised i got these times

    Belmont DD Dirt fst 6.0f 22.51 45.55 1:09.22 Sutherland C(P) V 120 hs

I then added Bute and got these times

    Belmont DD Dirt fst 6.0f 22.30 45.22 1:08.95 Sutherland C(P) BV 120 hs

All the number were at 100 for both runs, this has happened everytime with bute the horse runes a lot better. Any input why this is happening please or is it just that the vet got it wrong lol

My first thought would be to work the horse at a longer distance and see if the results are the same. Just a guess that at say 8 f or longer it may be more in line with what the bet is saying. Run through your instructions find the best set up and then add or drop the bute.
I know when I had so many four furlong sprinters they often performed better when I ignored the get recommendations.

Thanks Brian I did what you advised and here's the times.

Belmont DD Dirt fst 1m 23.14 46.49 1:35.91 Sutherland C(P) BV 120 hs With Bute
        Belmont DD Dirt fst 1m 23.36 46.87 1:36.18 Sutherland C(R) V 120 hs Without Bute

        Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 1/8m 47.79 1:12.71 1:50.12 Sutherland C(R) BV 120 hs With Bute
        Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 1/8m 48.28 1:13.31 1:50.59 Sutherland C(R) V 120 hs Without Bute

It seems as if the vets advice aint always correct ?

Did the same on Turf and its the same as dirt better with.

Belmont DD Turf fst 6.0f 22.27 45.17 1:08.95 Sutherland C(P) BV 120 hs With Bute
          Belmont DD Turf fst 6.0f 22.51 45.54 1:09.20 Sutherland C(P) V 120 hs Without Bute

Belmont DD Turf fst 1m 23.12 46.45 1:35.94 Sutherland C(R) BV 120 hs With Bute
          Belmont DD Turf fst 1m 23.35 46.85 1:36.23 Sutherland C(R) V 120 hs Without Bute

And the numbers were all close to 100 each time.

            Hi Second

Thanks for the question. Without getting into details and at first look....this 1 year old received a positive enhancement in one aspect and a negative in another aspect when applying Bute indicating an overall neutral move. Sometimes the positive enhancement to an attribute area is more important than the negative impact in another area. When you now take those two areas impacted and throw them back into the mix with all other attributes it generates a more positive result. For lack of better words.

The vet was not wrong as it was a neutral adjustment when looking at only the +/- impact given. As always I suggest everyone do as you did and thoroughly mine all possibilities with your foals. The Vet is pretty accurate for the most part.

            Thank you for your interest.
