  • Season 39 Digital Derby Race Preview

digitaldowns.us the best virtual horse racing game on the net! Proudly presents the first leg of the Triple Crown Series!
Purse 187000 +50000(BC) Starting Purse 25000 plus 50000 bonus credits, 3yo Colts and Fillies Wt colts 120lbs, fillies 118lbs, entry fee 15000
Last season IDONTKNOWHATTOSAY took the first jewel of the Triple Crown with a resounding open length victory in this race, enroute to season 38 HOY honors.
The past few weeks has offered a momentary respite for sophomore campaigners with only a few two-turn allowance or stakes on the program. Sunday, however, brings back the sizzle with an oversubscibed field of talented runners whittled down to 12, 7 colts and 5 fillies for the digitaldowns.us pre-eminent event. A dozen hopefuls will pack the gates looking to capture the first jewel and continue onward for a chance at sweeping the series and earning a sizable bonus. Let's meet the field.

    #1 SPEEDYPSYCHOSIS 9-1
Punters have this grandson of the mighty ECKO a 9-1 outsider for tomorrow's big race, perhaps concerned with the Chrisman trainee's by "appointment only" schedule (4 races) so far this season. The last 3 outs against sophomore route qualifiers have been uninspiring and this runner faces a difficult inside post assignment as well. Must conjure previous juvenile form and clever trip for podium consideration.
    #2 FORGOTTEN MAGIC 3-1
This striking gray filly was one of the early favorites for HOY this season after starting her sophomore campaign a perfect 5 for 5 and collecting 5 stakes wins. Her "magical" 6 race winning streak was abruptly snapped in late January with a head-scratching off the board finish. Since then she's won only once in 4 tries and has been purchased privately by veteran conditioner Foggydan Farms for a king's ransom. A barn change and a return to the dirt surface she's 7 for 9 over gives her a big chance for top honors.
    #3 TARYNOWESNORM 8-1
The 1st of the trio of TNT runners has been preparing for this event, sprinting in 4 of her last 6 tries. She stretches back out and moves to the main track after facing easier over the grassy going in her last. Her form has darkened since winning a 7F stakes qualifier in mid January. She's struggled against similar foes for much of the season and has yet to win at the distance in her short career. Prefer others.
    #4 TRYINGFORTHE6K 4-1
Photogenic TNT homebred has collected 7 wins in 18 tries in his productive career. From on or off the pace this runner has been most successful going a longer route of ground so the cutback is a bit of a concern. His last win, an off the pace score at the speed favoring 9F distance was quite impressive last out and makes him an interesting play. Horseplayers have fancied this runner in early wagering despite his modest dirt form (2 for 9). Wildcard of the race.
    #5 GREEK ISLES 5-1
Greeko Holdem runner was the Juvenile Classic Champion stopping the clock in a near record 148.33. His race 3 back chasing a runaway leader into punishing fractions and emerging victorious can beat these. Should be forwardly placed and with a smart ride should be heard from late.
    #6 TARYNSXMASGIFT 7-1
Last of the TNT hopefuls was the Breeders Cup Juvenile Champ at 9F besting his stablemate TRYINGFORTHE6K in a brief, but impressive 2 YO season. He was 3rd in the 1 mile Digital Downs Daily for his 3 YO bow and has been competitive against this group hitting the board consistently all season. Prefer underneath.
    #7 SPANIKOPITA 9-1
The second of the Greeko Holdem band impressively broke his maiden at first asking circling the field and drawing clear in the 1 mile Digital Downs Daily. This horse has serious route speed, blistering through fractions in sub 46 seconds for 9F. He'll need to ration that speed or employ a similar trip as his debut to factor in here. Likely pacesetter.
    #8 ECKO NUCLEUS 5-1
Has been razor sharp at 3, winning half of his 8 starts and finishing 2nd in 3 others. He's kept good company all season long battling stakes quality classic and route horses. He's been very handy throughout his career and has enough tactical speed to be part of the first flight if needed. If the pace is fast he's also handy enough to sit off them and employ a strong late kick. Very dangerous and strong win prospect.
    #9 STREAKER 10-1
Listed as a 10-1 outsider on the ML the 3rd of the 4 headed monster entered by Greeko comes into this race with something to prove. Always held in high regard being a son of "super sire" POLITICAL DEBATE the "Streak" had issues getting in a groove, dropping his first 9 decisions before breaking his maiden as a juvenile. The perseverance has paid off and a commitment to ride this horse aggressively early on and use that high cruising speed appears to be the answer. I just don't know if he has the ability to clear over to the fence when drawn this wide. There is a lot of speed signed up so I'm looking for others in here.
    #10 TEXANS BREW 12-1
The longest shot on the ML this filly from veteran conditioner Winning Ways is looking for her first win of the season, and a breakout win it would be, if she's able to pull the upset. While primarily campaigned as a sprinter in her career, her best success has been at the 7/8F distance including 2 wins at 7F last season. Difficult post and difficult assignment searching for that 1st win. Prefer others.
    #11 ZETTABYTE 2-1
The last of the 4 pack from Greeko enters tonight as the ML chalk and was a savvy 12K claim last season for season 39 leading trainer. While drawn extremely wide for tonight's contest she does have tactical speed and the ability to sit just off them off them. Her highest speed figures for the distance have been 96 (3x) which has been a few points off most of this field. I just don't know if the class of this field and the 1 mile distance are in her wheelhouse. Trying to beat the chalk!
#12 THE LORD OF LIGHT 6-1
This talented sophomore filly from the barn of MS Stables will exceed the 500K mark in career earning if she can hit the board tonight. The regally bred daughter of legendary sire LIGHT SHOW has faced the best of the best this season, bumping heads with each champ qualifier division. Unfortunately, she's been drawn near the party tents and beer vendors, but she's been handy enough to start her run from anywhere on the track. If she can weave through traffic in the stretch she has as good a shot as any.

    Picks 8-5-2

May the horse be with you!
