I believe the game works 100% as follows, and after my experiences, I am fairly confident.
****This is my editorial opinion, and not bona fide fact***
First
There are 25-30 Workout variables, computer ratings on turns, gate speed, pace, recovering from races quicker, handling class, career longevity, traffic, stamina, and others. BUT, there is also an identical RACE code with these same 25-30 variables.
What makes the game difficult is that we cannot know before actually racing (except a VERY LITTLE from multi track and off track training) how much the workout code aligns with the race code for each given horse.
The computer assigns these randomly, and so because of this, the workout code and the race code can result in VASTLY different results. What we get is a random assortment of horses who run true to form, who run better than their numbers, and morning glories.... The same random aspect occurs with breeding, and you can look at the published results...
The great equalizer is CREATES, which completely upset ALL implied harmony from the existing base of home bred horses.....Each year, a different number of creates are bred, and I believe these can be calibrated, "tweaked" to be on average "easier or harder to get a good create, be it in a given week, month, or even a "super create" entire season,
Second
Gelding in my opinion only allows a horse to reach its maximum potential at an earlier age..... It does not "improve a horse" per se' .....Instead, it can actually (and most often DOES) SHORTEN the life of a horse, in that you send the horse directly from its growth trajectory to near its max potential in an instant, and you lose breeding....and probably a lot of its racing career.
Third
Crazy anomalies in creates and breeding quality come in extremely un-random patterns. What is puzzling to me is that there is no way, and I ran an Excel simulator 6.2 million times (no, I am not kidding), that a RANDOM horse generator can assign "random" quality in such an "unrandom" way. So, as John Galt stated "Contradictions can never exist - If you find a potential contradiction exists, then check your premises. Herein, the premise that the horse is a completely random horse generator must be false. Instead, it generates and assigns quality in less random, but as of still unknown patterns. I will not get into specifics, but there are simply odds and probabilities that go beyond my computer's capacity to count zeroes, in terms of certain odds..... So, this remains a mystery, and I do not yet have a conclusion.

This game is not about quality. Toc states he is the best ever, but that is just talk and forum chatter...We have all been there when we are feeling it!. He does not have any records? Not the most wins, not the highest win percentage, not the highest ITM%, not even Top 10 in most categories? The game correlates to deposits. The mighty deposit is the most important factor in winning. The more you deposit, the more you win, period. With VERY rare exceptions, such as the EXTREMELY rare Gary the Aquaman, and the slightly above center Buddha, no one ever profits by allowing their stable to run itself. I believe there could POSSIBLY even be an algorithm that correlates between deposits and horse creation, but this is ONLY an opinion of mine, not a fact that I or anyone can prove.... I am merely saying this UNSCIENTIFICALLY after studying those who openly admitted they made deposits on the forums, and then tracking/measuring their results in the ensuing "x" amount of time.
This season, Toc spent the most of this, perhaps the shortest "Derby Field" in ages....and that is about 98% of the reason he has a VERY modest leaderboard lead this season, relative to other #1 ranked Owners at this point in the season...VERY modest with wins, win %, etc... at this point.
There is no such thing as a best player when there are 23 active players here......If 23 of us sat in a Casino Slot machine section, those who brought the most money would have the biggest individual slot pull wins, and they would almost definitely also be FAR and AWAY the most likely to have the biggest session (season) wins......but also they would potentially have the highest expenditures (losses)
....I ask the community for their opinion on what constitutes improvement, outside of the 2 weeks it takes to learn the game. Toc is not winning at 35-40% like I did, like Ryan Express did...Toc is not winning as many as 2000-3000 seasonal races as Dan, Eddie, Norm, and others won across a season.....so I ask someone from the outside to contribute their opinions as well on talent curve. The bottom line is you choose about a month before the season starts that you are going to make the financial investment to win, and you will win a bunch and lose a bunch....and maybe you'll get a title along the way.
My very best to you.....I personally think you all and myself are EXACTLY as talented at this game today (for those that have been here at least 5 seasons) as you were 10-15-20 seasons ago, and the numbers support it. The only variables season over season are volume; and volume arises from heavier deposits. period.
I think you are about EXACTLY as talented as Norm, Eddie, Chris, etc......that's really all it is, other than spending more than anyone else
