Following the example set by such real world tracks at Turfway Park and Keeneland, Digital Downs has converted to a synthetic polytrack just in time for meeting seven to get underway.
The synthetic polytracks consist of polypropolene plastic mixed with sand and dirt all covered with a wax layer, so in performance it acts just like a normal dirt track except its softer and water doesnt accumulate and special layering underneath help to pull the water away from the track. This will assure that the track is always fast. Up close the track looks like a dirty sand mixtured with bits of colored plastic mixed in (Now I wish I had taken a picture of the real one I saw last week)
Other real world tracks will certainly be following., The California Horse Racing board has also voted to require it on all their tracks. Other of course will be monitoring the effects at Digital Downs to see the effects it has on the racing.
