What will the Triple Crown bring?
I'm not sure how other members feel, but I've been ecstatic since learning that admin is looking at implementing a series of Triple Crown races for three year olds in the site. Unfortunately that's about all we know right now and my curiousity is growing every day. A couple of burning questions come to mind.
What distances will the races be ran over? Will they consist of mostly route races as the races here in the States are or will there be a variety as they are in other countries. Of course it would be very difficult for a horse to win as should be the case, but if the distances varies as in 6, 8, 11f then it would truly take a great horse to be able to conquer all three legs of a triple crown.
What will the individual races be called? How will the name of the new races be determined or will existing races be implemented into the triple crown? I've always had a fondness for the Tracksider Miles and believe they have the history and interest to make a very worthy leg to what could easily become the most sought after award in the game.
Will they be open races or will you have to earn a spot? I think the biggest question is will the races be exclusive so that only horses winning qualifying stakes or races be allowed to enter. This may cause the number of entrants to be limited but would help to ensure that only the best of the best compete in these races. I can only imagine when we finally have a contender that looks to win all three races only to have it drug to the back of the field by being caught behind a 10k claimer someone entered. I also think that open races will have to oppourtunity to split which would also take away from the majesty and exclusiveness that the Triple Crown could hold.
No matter the name or the distance of the races, when the best horses in the game start competing for this elusive award things are going to get very interesting. I'm very excited to see what admin comes up with for us and as always good luck to all.
I hope you enjoyed this first issue of Down The Stretch and I hope I didn't anger anyone. I'm saving that for future issues. If you have questions of comments feel free to email me or post on the forum.
