  • My Lack of Router/Stayer Numbers....

I can do all the math and look at past performances, but I will just ask here:

Would this be considered an impressive workout on PUSH for a brand new/unraced 2 year old colt from the sales ring?
    12May20 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 3/8m 47.64 1:12.44 2:18.12 1 1 1 1 Franco M(P) BLV 120 hst

Fingers crossed that this is good, because it sure seems faster than most of my "best" routers...and his 1 1/4 push train was like 2:03.49

....I made my bread and butter between 5 and 9 furlongs....I am actually excited that I have not yet learned the routers!

I remember Steve at Royal Oaks and Gary the Aquaman, along with active royalty Eddie and Norm all fared well in routes....

....My only route success was via my horse of the year Temple of Sakkara, an absolute beast who missed the triple crown in the Preakness, but won the Derby and the marathon Belmont in wire to wire fashion - a REAL rarity for top-shelf routers....I know that much...

Are you fairly certain? I trust you as always....I just simply didn't dabble in virtually ANY routers!

The Colt is SLOW out of the gate....very much..... But, here are his push workouts at 1 mile and 1 1/4 (and I ran another 1 3/8 and a 1 1/2 also):

        13May20 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1m 23.11 46.37 1:35.37 1 1 1 1 Franco M(P) BLV 120 hst 1
        13May20 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 1/4m 47.63 1:12.39 2:03.55 1 1 1 1 Franco M(P) BLV 120 hst
        13May20 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 3/8m 47.59 1:12.37 2:18.14 1 1 1 1 Franco M(P) BLV 120 hst 1
        12May20 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 1/2m 48.02 1:12.91 2:33.04 1 1 1 1 Franco M(S) BLV 120 hst

Looks like a solid router to me, and he is from the new sales ring..... so regally-bred.

..... I like that his peak is 4-7 years old, and also that he is still a Colt.....the Geld card can always be played.

ive got some nice routers, none of them can work like that. Im No Hero, one of mine, broke the Belmont 1 3/8m (turf) record recently (it got broken again two days ago), At 1 3/8m (push work) his splits are 48.23 1.13.28 2.18.91,so your horse has a couple of panels on him at every clocking pole. At the long range of 1 1/2m, my horse returns 48.26 1.13.21 2.34.03. Again, your horse has him done and dusted at every post. Id like to have your horse, so i could race him. I get a sense of your rising excitement Orb, and i wish you well with him, he looks like a very big talent. BUT, a minor word of caution....as you are aware, you never know until you race them. And, as you are aware, track times have the dubious reputation of being the games biggest liar. Pat, over at Donovan Stables has felt the stinging bitterness of this recently with his filly Hot Fox, who came to town with a reputation bigger than Texas, her 4 starts to date have her stamped as soft, fragile and unwilling to perform to her early morning standards. Last i heard of Pat, he was at the bar throwing down Duff like there was no tommorrow, and scratching his head, and a big " horse for sale" sign in the back of his F 100...

I hear you on that...... I am tempered, and yes if he was a sprinter or a miler, etc... I would probably be a little more braggadocios...

....Again, outside of the legendary Temple of Sakkara, who I bred and won horse of the year (and missed the triple crown in the Preakness, finishing 2nd) - he won 1.8 million in his career, and
it would be a tragedy not to see him in the hall of fame for Greeko and myself.

But back to this one, I was being honest when I said I was in uncharted territory with stayers.... he has a relatively lukewarm 4-1 odds for a soft race, relative to other maidens.

Fingers crossed, as this is the reason I came back - to get one like this and BUILD build BUILD and grow!

              Hey Orb,

Since I breed and run many routers maybe I can help give you a little perspective. I have one very similar to yours in that he is a full colt with a peak age of 4-7. He was 2yo route champ and just missed by a head of winning the 3yo route championship and I fully expect him to contend for the route championship this year at 4yo.

Check out Champagne Globe...I have posted his best 2yo work times for you below. Bear in mind that work times are faster now than they were a couple seasons ago but this should give you some perspective. Good luck with yours. You do have reason for some optimism.

              19Nov19 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 1/4m 47.44 1:12.23 2:03.88 1 1 1 1 Ortiz I. Jr(P) BV 120 hs 1
              19Nov19 Belmont DD Dirt fst 1 3/8m 48.19 1:13.16 2:18.33 1 1 1 1 Ortiz I. Jr(S) BV 120 hs 1

Just for comparison here's his works now as a 4yo. They are much faster than yours now but remember he is mature and has had the 4yo bump so with any luck something like this could be what you have to look forward to.
