  • Training Guide

When you train your horses, there is a predictable range of movement of each meter. The following chart will show how much each meter will move with each type of train. There are two categories of meters: Speed and Other. Other = Stamina, Strength, and Endurance. The chart below has nothing to do with fitness and obviously doesn't apply if you are doing a TIMED work.

How much SPEED increases depends SOLELY upon the distance of the train. For example, looking at the chart below, a 1 1/8 LPG will increase speed the same as a 1 1/8 MRG: 10-13 points.

The other 3 attributes (strength, stamina, and endurance), work differently. If you are doing a Long Pony Gallop, these “other” attributes will move differently depending upon the distance. But if you are doing an MRG, SRG, or FRG, then the "other" attributes always move within the same range, regardless of the distance of the train. The movement within the ranges is random. For example, if you MRG, the “other attributes” will all three move between 4-7, regardless of the distance and surface. The example below the chart should help.

At ___ furlongs, regardless of the type of train, speed will always move:

    2F 3-6
    3F 4-7
    4F 5-8
    5F 6-9
    6F 7-10
    7F 8-11
    8F 9-12
    9F 10-13
    10F 11-14
    11F 12-15

At ___ furlongs of LPG, OTHER attributes will always move:

    2F 0-4
    3F 1-5
    4F 2-6
    5F 3-7
    6F 4-8
    7F 5-9
    8F 6-10
    9F 7-11
    10F 8-12
    11F 9-13

If you do a SRG, FRG, or MRG, then the OTHER attributes will increase within the same range, regardless of the distance:

    SRG: 3-6
    MRG: 4-7
    FRG: 5-8

So, for example: If your meters before were SP: 75, STA 78, END 82 and STR 83: Then your meters will move into the following ranges if you choose the following types of trains.

    ...........................SP...........STA....... .....END..........STR
    1 3/8 lpg............87-90..........87-91.........91-95.........92-96
    1 3/8 srg............87-90..........81-84.........85-88.........86-89
    6F FRG..............82-85........83-86........87-90..........88-91
    3F LPG..............79-82........79-83........83-87..........84-88

I won't be around to answer questions about this chart. If it's going to help you, then you'll be able to figure it out.
